ECHO, Summit County — A teenage boy who was seriously injured after his four-wheeler was hit by a pickup truck Thursday night has died.
Two teenage boys were riding four-wheelers on Echo Road around 6 p.m. when they pulled over to the shoulder and turned off their vehicles, said Capt. Andrew Wright with Summit County Sheriff's Office.
A pickup truck driving on Echo Road didn't see the boys and hit one of the four-wheelers, causing both the boy and the four-wheeler to go airborne.
Police said the boy was flown to Primary Children's Hospital with life-threatening, critical injuries. Wright said the driver sustained minor injuries in the collision, as well.
Officials announced on Saturday that 14-year-old Zander Jones had died at the hospital, from injuries sustained in the accident.
"We send our sincerest condolences to the Jones family and friends, Zander's friend who was with him at the time of the accident, the driver of the truck, and all the first responders involved in this tragic accident. Hug your loved ones often," Summit County sheriff's office said on Facebook.
