SALT LAKE CITY — A 22-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a domestic violence-related homicide that killed a professional bull rider in September.

Lashawn Denise Bagley was arrested in the Houston area by members of the Southern District of Texas U.S. Marshals Service who were acting on information provided by Salt Lake City police. An arrest warrant was issued for Bagley on one count of domestic-violence murder and nine counts of felony discharge of a firearm.

Salt Lake police responded to a shooting Sept. 12, 2022, near 900 South and 200 West in Salt Lake City. Upon arrival found 27-year-old Demetrius Allen with a gunshot wound. Police said Allen was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The shooting occurred just hours after Allen competed in the Utah State Fair. Allen was known by fans as "Ouncie Mitchell," according to a statement from Professional Bull Riders CEO Sean Gleason.

Police said they saw "multiple bullet holes" in the glass door to apartment #102, "to include bullet impact/strikes to an exterior window of apartment 102. The bullet impact/strikes all appear to be coming from inside to outside," according to a police booking affidavit.

Bagley lived at the apartment where the shooting took place and she called 911.

"While on the phone with Bagley, the 911 operator heard loud noises and asked about the noises. Bagley, according to court documents, said "I'm shooting" and told the 911 operator she was out of bullets," a news release from Salt Lake police said.

Salt Lake police's homicide squad started an investigation where they learned Allen was staying at Bagley's apartment and went to pick up equipment worth approximately $10,000, police said.

Allen and Bagley had been in an "on-again-off-again domestic relationship," police added.

Police said during the investigation, they believed Bagley shot her handgun multiple times and that she was upset with Allen because of his interest in Bagley's friend.

Bagley was initially released after being arrested because detectives needed to conduct additional investigative follow-up on the case and during that time Bagley left Salt Lake City, police said.

Salt Lake police obtained an arrest warrant and she was taken into custody in Houston.
