SOUTH JORDAN — The Red Line TRAX route is out of service on Wednesday after a dump truck hit power lines in the area, officials said.
The incident happened at 11:10 a.m. when the truck went through the intersection of Grandville and South Jordan Parkway, and the equipment on the back of the truck didn't lower as it passed under the wires, Utah Transit Authority officials said in a news release.
Multiple insulators and six power poles were also damaged. Nobody was injured.
Two TRAX trains were stuck after the incident due to lack of power. The transit authority evacuated all passengers and took them by buses to their destinations, according to the release.
The Daybreak Parkway and South Jordan Parkway stations are affected, as well as the stations at 5600 West and 4800 West. UTA established bus bridges to connect lines while repairs are underway.
Officials said the "best case scenario" estimates repairs will be complete midday Thursday. The bus bridge will continue through the day Wednesday until 12 a.m. Thursday, and will resume Thursday at 5 a.m.
The Red Line will remain in operation between 4800 West to the University of Utah and medical centers in both directions, according to the release.
