SANDY — Four teenagers have been arrested after allegedly beating a man to the point of knocking him unconscious, according to police.

About noon on Monday, a man in his 50s was at Dewey Bluth Park,170 E. Sego Lily Drive, near the Porter Rockwell Trail across the street from Jordan High School, when there was a confrontation with a group of teens, according to Sandy Police Sgt. Greg Moffitt.

Moffitt said the investigation into what sparked the confrontation was still ongoing Tuesday, noting that as of late Monday, the victim was still not in a condition to be interviewed.

Portions of the assault were recorded by others who were present and posted video to social media. In the clips, several teens are seen punching the man and then continue to hit and kick him after he is knocked to the ground, Moffitt says.

As officers were responding to the scene they were told the man was still on the ground and possibly unconscious, he said. When the first police and medical crews arrived, Moffitt said the man was "either just coming to or was still unconscious."

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital where he was kept overnight to be treated for head trauma, according to police.

A Jordan High school resource officer viewed the videos that were posted of the assault and was able to identify the four alleged main perpetrators, Moffitt said, adding they were two 15-year-old boys, and two other boys ages 16 and 17. Police began rounding them up and by Monday night all four had been arrested and booked into juvenile detention for investigation of aggravated assault.

Moffitt could not confirm Tuesday that all four teens attended Jordan High School, only saying they are students in the Canyons District.
