SALT LAKE CITY —Argentines in Utah and surrounding states will have an opportunity to receive consular services and meet with other Argentines this week.
The Argentine Consulate of Los Angeles is offering services at the Salt Lake City Public Library Oct. 12-14. The visit was organized in collaboration with the Utah Argentina Alliance.
The consulate will offer passport and DNI (Documento Nacional de Identidad) services as well as other consular procedures. Those interested in the services can email itineranciasclang@gmail.com for assistance. Fees for the services will only be accepted through money orders. More information in Spanish is available here.
Argentina only has two consulates in the Western U.S., with the Argentine Consulate of Los Angeles serving Argentines living in Alaska, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Washington. This means renewing documents and obtaining other services requires a long and sometimes expensive trip for Argentines living in Utah.
"The mobile consulate to Salt Lake City is extremely important since the second largest Argentine community in the consular jurisdiction of the Consulate in LA, after California, resides in Utah," Deputy Consul Ana Cristina Saino said. "We estimate that around 7,000 Argentines live in Utah."
Saino expects about 200 individuals will be helped during the visit and that Argentines from Arizona are also expected to attend.
Ana Valdemoros, Utah Argentina Alliance president and Salt Lake City council member, said members of the alliance will also be at the library throughout the day to offer assistance as well as information about the alliance's programs, scholarships and upcoming events.
