TAYLORSVILLE — A 15-year-old West Valley boy who police believe entered a Taylorsville home at random early Tuesday has been arrested and accused of stabbing the husband and wife who live there.

About 3:50 a.m., a man and woman were asleep in their bedroom in the area of 4800 South and 3400 West when they were awoken by a 15-year-old boy who had somehow made his way into their house, said Taylorsville Police Sgt. Jake Hill. The couple did not know the teenager and police say the boy apparently entered the house at random.

As of Tuesday morning, Hill said detectives were still trying to determine how the boy got inside.

After waking the couple, the boy and the husband got into an altercation and the husband was stabbed during the struggle, Hill said. His wife ran out of the house to get help and the boy chased after her, eventually catching up to her and allegedly stabbing her as well.

The woman was able to break away, however, and continued running to a neighbor's house where she called 911. About the same time, her husband also called 911 from their home, Hill said.

Police responded quickly and surrounded the area. They found the teen a couple of blocks away and took him into custody. Hill said as of Tuesday morning, detectives were still trying to determine a motive for the unusual, random attack.

The husband and wife, both in their late 30s to early 40s, were taken to local hospitals to be treated for serious injuries not considered to be life-threatening, Hill said.
