SALT LAKE CITY — Lydia Jumonville, former president and CEO at Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, has been named as the interim president and CEO of Utah-based Intermountain Healthcare, the organization announced Friday.

The news comes on the heels of current president and CEO Marc Harrison accepting a leadership position to run a health care platform business for General Catalyst. He'll transition out of his Intermountain Healthcare role this fall.

Jumonville served as the president and CEO of SCL Health during the last six years before the Colorado-headquartered system merged with Intermountain Healthcare in April, according to a news release. She played an "integral role" in that merger, Intermountain said, adding that Jumonville has since been serving as the executive sponsor of integration and as a member of the Intermountain Enterprise Leadership Team.

Her first day as interim president is set to be Aug. 22.

Jumonville has chosen not to be a candidate for the permanent leadership position, the news release continues, but she will be a "key partner" to the new president and looks forward to retiring at the end of 2023.

Intermountain Healthcare is conducting a national search for a permanent replacement, with the goal of reaching a decision this fall.

In her time with SCL Health, Jumonville also served as executive vice president and chief financial officer for the organization. Additionally, she spent 10 years at the chief financial officer at Dallas-based Baylor Health Care.

"It was an honor to serve as the president and CEO of legacy SCL Health over the past six years, and I'm excited to have the opportunity to bring my experience forward to this interim role for Intermountain Healthcare," Jumonville said in a statement. "Our shared future is bright and full of promise."

Additionally, Harrison praised Jumonville's "strong leadership" and "incredible warmth."

Mike Leavitt, chairman of the Intermountain Healthcare Board and former Utah governor and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, thanked Harrison in for his leadership.

"He has brought Intermountain Healthcare forward," Leavitt said in a statement.

Harrison has been battling multiple myeloma — his second bout with cancer, and has been at Intermountain's helm since 2016. He has effected mergers with various health care systems in Utah, Idaho, Nevada and Colorado. He announced he was leaving the nonprofit Intermountain earlier this month.
