WEST JORDAN — Police arrested one person Sunday as they investigate a triple homicide that occurred at a house party in West Jordan Saturday night.

Police responded to calls that shots had been fired near 3355 W. 6920 South about 10:45 p.m.

"We arrived fairly quickly and found three people had been shot at that location ... during a big party that was going on at one of the houses in that area," said West Jordan Deputy Police Chief Jeremy Robertson. One victim was dead at the scene and the two others were taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

Robertson described all three as African-American males. One was described as an 18-year-old man, another was a teenager — both with gang ties, according to police. Investigators were still trying to identify the third victim on Sunday. He is "believed to be an associate of the other two victims," said West Jordan police officer Alondra Zavala.

No names have yet been released.

Police say they took one teenager into custody in connection with the shootings and recovered evidence, including a gun. Zavala said additional arrests are expected.

"It does look like this shooting was targeted to the party and that it's probably gang-related, so there's no risk to the general public," Robertson said. "It was targeted to the people at the party."

Witnesses told police several people were involved in the shootings and multiple vehicles left the scene. "We are currently looking for multiple suspects at this point," the deputy chief said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Jordan police at 801-840-4000.
