WOODS CROSS — A man fatally shot himself in Woods Cross on Friday as police say they were attempting to collect evidence in a child sex abuse case.

The incident happened in the area of 1250 West and 1200 South, Woods Cross police said.

Police say the man barricaded himself inside his home when investigators arrived. Officers and the South Davis SWAT team negotiated with him for several hours to try to get him to come out, according to police.

The man, described to be in his 50s, ultimately shot himself in the head and died of his injuries.

Additional information, including the man's name, was not immediately released.
