SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox was recently elected to become vice chairman of the National Governors Association, his office announced Friday.

"I'm honored to serve as NGA vice chair, and I look forward to working closely with governors from every state and territory," Cox said in a statement.

"States are where the most creative problem solving happens, and I'm eager to help our federal partners learn from governors and states to find common sense solutions for the nation's biggest challenges," he said.

The National Governors Association is a bipartisan group that works together on "economic recovery, infrastructure investment, health care, education, cybersecurity, workforce development and other pressing priorities," according to Cox's office.

The association elected New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy as chairman. Cox and Murphy assumed their roles during the group's summer meeting and will serve for one year.

Cox will lead the association's Center for Best Practices, which his office describes as the only research and development office that directly serves governors.
