SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health and Human Services reported 7,789 new COVID-19 cases, as well as 22 additional deaths over the past week.

The average new case count for each day was just over 1,112 cases. On Thursday, 252 patients were hospitalized with the coronavirus in Utah, a decrease of seven since the previous Thursday, July 7.

All of Utah's wastewater testing facilities marked elevated or increasing levels of the virus this week — 100% compared to 64.7% of sites the previous week, according to state health data.

Salt Lake, Tooele, Summit, Piute, Grand and San Juan counties are experiencing high rates of disease, according to the CDC guidelines, but the rest of the state is seeing low or moderate case rates. The numbers do not include results from any home tests.
