SALT LAKE CITY – One person is dead and three others injured after police say a fight ended in a shooting at a Salt Lake apartment complex.

Police began receiving reports of a shooting at Seasons At Pebble Creek apartment complex, 1616 Snow Queen Place, just after 7 p.m. Monday. Officers arrived to find "one person inside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds," said Brent Weisberg, spokesman for the Salt Lake City Police Department.

That man died despite life-saving efforts being made on his behalf, according to a statement from police.

Two others were also shot and were transported to area hospitals, one with critical injuries and the other with serious injuries, according to the statement. Police believe a third injured person was "physically assaulted inside the apartment" prior to the shooting, sustaining injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Witnesses told police there was a fight going on right before shots rang out, Weisberg said. Police were initially investigating the possibility of a home invasion but later determined that was not the case. Investigators believe the shooter, or shooters, and the victims knew one another.

Following the shooting, police believe multiple people fled the area in two vehicles. Those vehicles were located by responding officers at 1151 S. Redwood Road and 60 S. Redwood Road, the police statement says. The two locations were both being investigated as crime scenes Monday night.

"At this point, no arrests have been made. Detectives are in the early stages of trying to determine what led up to the shooting and who was involved," the police statement says.

All directions on Redwood Road were closed at 1700 South, and police were asking drivers to use an alternative route.

Police have not yet released any information about the man who was killed.

Officials are asking anyone who has information about this case to call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-106677.
