ARAGONITE, Tooele County — One person died Saturday after striking the railing alongside the freeway with their vehicle near Arragonite in Tooele County, police said.

The person was eastbound on Interstate 80 when 2006 Volvo vehicle left the roadway around 7:25 a.m. and hit a crash attenuator — a rail-type device on the side of the road intended to protect other vehicles and structures when a car leaves the road — according to a police press release.

The driver, the only occupant of the car, died from their injuries. No other information was released about the driver.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers are investigating speed as a factor in the crash.
