RIVERDALE — A woman is dead after a SWAT team was called to an active incident in Riverdale on Friday evening, authorities say.
Riverdale Assistant Chief of Police Casey Warren said a call came in at 7:41 p.m. stating that there was a gunshot wound at a home on 700 West of 4100 South.
Upon their arrival, it was discovered that there was a domestic dispute where shots had been fired, but nobody was found wounded, Warren said. A man who had called police on his wife was found outside the home, Riverdale Police said.
As officers approached the house, the woman with the gun retreated inside, Riverdale Police stated. Then, "multiple shots were fired, and SWAT was called", Warren said.
Officers took cover and contained the woman to the home. After several attempts to contact the woman were unsuccessful, a SWAT team entered the home and found the woman dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Riverdale Police said.
No officers discharged firearms during the incident, and no law enforcement was injured during the encounter, Riverdale Police said.
The woman's name was not released pending family notification.
