FILLMORE — A Millard County man has been arrested and accused of making a bomb threat at the county jail.
Dustin Shane Walker, 26, of Delta, was booked into the Millard County Jail on Wednesday for investigation of making a terroristic threat.
On Sunday, emergency dispatchers received a call from a disconnected cellphone of a recording stating there was a bomb at the jail. "On the call, what sounded like a pre-recorded female voice stated, 'There is a bomb at the Millard County Jail, Fillmore, Utah.' This repeated three times, then the call ended," according to a jail booking affidavit.
As a precaution, explosive sniffing K-9s from the Utah Department of Public Safety and crews from Unified Fire Authority were sent to the jail to conduct a search, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. No explosives were found.
Investigators used cellphone data to trace the call to the area of an apartment complex in Delta. In reviewing call records, investigators also determined that dispatchers had received a 911 call from the same disconnected cellphone on April 10, during which another pre-recorded audio message was delivered, the affidavit states.
In reviewing records, deputies also determined that eight minutes prior to the bomb threat, emergency dispatchers received a call from Walker, trying to reach his mother, who is currently incarcerated at the jail, according to the affidavit. Dispatchers told him to call the jail.
"Dustin called the jail and asked to speak with his mother, but was told that his mother would have to call him," the affidavit states.
On Wednesday, deputies served a search warrant at Walker's residence and said no explosive materials were found. When questioned, Walker told investigators that he has "periods where he blacks out and didn't remember making the call," but admitted "it was possible that he made the call" to dispatchers making a bomb threat, according to the affidavit.
Deputies also reviewed phone calls that Walker's mother made to her son from jail.
"She tells Dustin and his brother numerous times to leave the apartment and get out of Utah. When the search warrant was served, Dustin and his brother had suitcases and bags packed ready to leave," the affidavit states.
Because of that, deputies believe Walker could be a flight risk if released from jail.
