FARMINGTON — A Kaysville police officer was injured Friday after stopping a wrong-way driver on I-15 by crashing into the car near Farmington.
Around 2 a.m. Friday morning, police learned of a car driving north in the southbound lanes of I-15, according to a Facebook post from the Utah Highway Patrol. A state trooper tried to intercept the car but missed, and a Kaysville police officer was also on the road, according to a statement Friday from UHP.
The Kaysville officer was able to hit the wrong-way driver, UHP said, though it was unclear what was the angle or point of impact in the crash. A Kaysville police spokesman told KSL that the officer had minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
It was not known if the wrong-way driver was injured in the crash. Troopers said Friday that the driver was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence. UHP said in the Facebook post that the driver allegedly had a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit.
Both lanes of the freeway were briefly closed after the crash but have since been reopened, UHP said Friday. Investigators were unclear where the car may have entered the wrong lanes of the freeway, but they say the car may have come from the Salt Lake area.
