MAGNA — Police are investigating the death of a Magna man who was shot multiple times and found dead inside a vehicle Friday afternoon.

Unified police say they received multiple 911 calls that shots had been fired around 4:30 p.m Friday at the Colony Farms apartment complex, near 7250 West and 2600 South. Once there, officers found a man dead inside his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Unified police detective Kevin Mallory.

Witnesses told police that a man was seen "fleeing the scene fast in a vehicle" shortly after the shooting.

Police on Saturday identified the victim as Fernando Ruesga, 20, of Magna.

A witness told KSL-TV he saw the situation unfold from his window.

Jon Dorman said he saw two men facing each other in the parking lot with their fists raised, but he didn't see them hit each other.

"But then, I see them sprint back to their cars," he said.

Dorman said he saw one man jump in a car and the other grabbed a gun from a different car. He saw the man point the gun and fire off several shots as the other man tried to get away.

"Once I heard the gunshots, I'm like, yeah, these guys aren't horsing around," he said.

Dorman says he saw the gunman jump in a car and take off east and then north toward state Route 201. He described the car as a silver four-door sedan, though police have not released a description of the vehicle.

"Its tragic, right? Prayers go out to the families affected. There were a lot of people affected by this, not just the one man who was killed."

When police arrived at the scene, they found the front end of the victim's car up against the apartment building and the victim was dead in the driver's seat.

"It was a shooting in broad daylight in a very public place ... at an apartment complex, high density housing with a school nearby," Mallory said. "Very, very dangerous situation. We're glad that there nobody else was hurt at this point, but very brazen."
