LOGAN — The boys soccer coach at Sky View High School was arrested Wednesday for investigation of sexting with an undercover police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.

According to a police affidavit, Jorge Alejandro Cruz, 48, of Logan, was booked into the Cache County Jail on three counts of enticing a minor (one third-degree felony and two second-degree felonies) and four counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor (all third-degree felonies).

Cruz began having explicit conversations with the officer posing as a minor in December, the affidavit said, and it escalated as he shared nude photos to a group the officer was in. He also asked to meet with the minor in February but then canceled, according to the affidavit.

During the investigation, police served a search warrant on Cruz's account and connected the email used to him, learning that he is a youth soccer coach for multiple teams, including the high school, the affidavit said.

Cruz has been the head coach of the Sky View Bobcats for five years, leading the team to a 4A state championship in 2019. He was placed on administrative leave following his arrest, Cache County School District said in a statement Thursday night.

"The district first learned of the allegations against Mr. Cruz after his arrest," the statement said. "Allegations such as these are taken seriously and Mr. Cruz has been placed on administrative leave pending investigations of charges against him. The district will cooperate fully with any law enforcement investigation. Currently, to the district's knowledge, no students or anyone else associated with the school is involved."
