ST. GEORGE — The Veterans Affairs clinic in St. George was closed indefinitely Tuesday after reported threats.

The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System posted on Facebook around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, announcing the St. George clinic would be closed until further notice. Veterans were encouraged not to go to the clinic, as patients were being called to reschedule appointments.

Around 3:15 p.m., the Salt Lake VA left a comment in the same Facebook post saying the clinic was closed due to safety reasons, adding "threats were made against employees and veterans." As of 4:45 p.m. Tuesday the clinic remained closed, according to Jill Atwood, director of communications for the Salt Lake VA system.

In an email, Atwood told KSL, "VA Police are working closely with local authorities to mitigate the situation. We look forward to a peaceful resolution and the reopening of the clinic as soon as possible."

Atwood added she could not release anything that may hinder a police investigation, but she said threats were made to the clinic over the phone.
