CLEARFIELD — Are you in search of a job? The Internal Revenue Service wants to help.

The IRS is looking to hire over 1,000 people to work at its campus in Ogden, and it will hold hiring events later this week in Clearfield, according to a news release from the agency. The IRS will be using a new, expedited hiring process that gives hiring agents the ability to offer jobs on the spot, with candidates potentially beginning work within 30-45 days.

Hiring events will be held on March 31 and April 1, at Workforce Services in Clearfield, 1290 E. 1450 South, where both will be open to the public.

Potential candidates should bring a resume and two forms of identification, including a driver's license or state identification card, birth certificate, U.S. passport, military ID or Social Security card. The IRS cannot accept a paper or temporary form of ID.

Most of the available jobs are entry-level positions that do not require tax expertise, according to the IRS. The jobs would include on-the-job training, as well as competitive pay, paid vacation and sick days and opportunities for advancement.

Anyone who wants to attend the in-person hiring events is encouraged to pre-register online for either day. The hiring events on March 31 and April 1 will each take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can also register for the in-person hiring events through the IRS' website.

The IRS will also hold a virtual hiring event on March 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST. Registration for the virtual event is available online.

Starting pay begins at $15.61 per hour, with the potential for pay increases, according to the IRS. Hirees may also qualify for a hiring recruitment incentive, and current employees may be eligible for an employee referral bonus.

Applicants may be given job offers and be fingerprinted during the in-person event. Applicants may also receive a recruitment incentive that requires a one-year agreement.

Those who attend should plan on spending a few hours to complete all the necessary steps for the hiring process.

The hiring event for the Ogden IRS office is part of a larger initiative from the agency to hire 10,000 new workers, to help reduce a backlog in tax filings. The IRS hopes to clear its backlog of roughly 20 million filings in what the agency believes to be one of the most challenging tax seasons in recent memory, according to the Associated Press.
