TREMONTON — A Bear River Middle School student was found carrying a handgun and large knife to school Monday afternoon, police said.

Tremonton-Garland police responded to the school, 300 East 1500 South in Tremonton, after multiple students told school administrators that another student was carrying a handgun, according to a Tuesday Facebook post from the department. Officers and administrators located the student and soon found a concealed 9 mm handgun along with a large knife, police said.

The student was taken into custody without incident and booked into a juvenile detention center on investigation of multiple charges, according to the post.

Police said that there are no known threats to the school, adding that there will be increased law enforcement officers present to ensure safety.

The incident is still under investigation with no known motive, according to police.
