VERNAL — A semitruck driver was killed in a rollover crash near Vernal early Monday.

Just after 5 a.m., a semitruck was hauling 43-foot oilfield pipe on state Route 191 about 12 miles north of Vernal in a switchbacks area when it rolled.

"The semitruck lost control and left the roadway on one of the switchbacks," according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol. "The semi came to rest upside down off of the highway."

The driver, from Texas, was ejected and killed. Troopers were attempting to notify family members about the crash before releasing his name.

The road was closed for about two hours as heavy equipment was brought in to clean up the steel pipes that were tossed onto the road. It reopened about 7:30 a.m.
