SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police have arrested the second of two women accused of stealing multiple pieces of luggage from the Salt Lake City International Airport's baggage pickup area over the course of several days.
Brianna Marie Taylor, 41, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday night for investigation of eight counts of theft, four counts of unlawful acquisition of a bank card, four counts of unlawful use of a bank card, and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Her arrest comes a week after police announced they had arrested Leticia Marie Herrera, 40, for investigation of theft and four counts of unlawful use of a bank card.
On Jan. 3, both women drove to the airport where they took three bags from two baggage carousels, according to a police booking affidavit. The owner of two of those bags "reported the total contents of her bags were valued at $6,000, including a wallet with multiple financial cards."
From the airport, the two women went to the Jordan Landing shopping complex and made purchases at Best Buy, Famous Footwear and Bath and Body Works, according to the affidavit. Two vehicles were also filled with gas.
On Jan. 11, Taylor returned to the airport.
"She exited the vehicle with a 13-year-old child and went into the baggage area. (She) took four bags," according to the affidavit.
The 13-year-old later told police that two other children, ages 10 and 5, were also in the car at the time.
Taylor then returned to the airport on Jan. 13 and Jan. 14 and took a total of three more bags, the affidavit says. During Herrera's arrest last week, police announced that they had recovered seven stolen bags.
Police say Taylor was on probation at the time of her alleged crimes and had absconded in October. She was arrested about two weeks ago but released with new conditions for her probation, the affidavit states. Another warrant was issued for her arrest after she allegedly failed to keep in touch with her probation officer.
"Her behavior shows no intention to refrain from committing new offenses or follow court order stipulations to be released," police wrote.
According to court records, Taylor was charged with shoplifting in December of 2020. Her next court date in that case is set for Tuesday. In May, she pleaded guilty to theft in another case for taking thousands of dollars in deposit money over a period of time while working at a Smith's Food and Drug, according to court documents. She was given a suspended sentence of one year in jail and placed on three years of probation. A warrant was issued or her arrest on Jan. 26 for probation violation.
