SALT LAKE CITY — Police are looking for witnesses after a man was shot and killed near 900 South Edison Street early Saturday.

At about 1:30 a.m. police responded to reports of shots fired. When they arrived on the scene, they discovered a man on the ground with a gunshot wound, according to a news release.

Life-saving measures were already being attempted when police arrived and continued with officers assisting. Despite life-saving attempts, the man died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found the shooting began with an "isolated fight between a group of people," the release said. Police are attempting to locate several witnesses who left the scene following the shooting.

The shooting is not connected to the fatal shooting that occurred Friday, according to police.

Police are working with the medical examiner's office to determine a cause of death and the identity of the man, the release said.

Salt Lake City police ask anyone with information — including videos or photos of the events before, during or after the shooting — to call 801-799-3000.
