WEST VALLEY CITY — No bail warrants were issued Wednesday for the arrests of two people that police say participated in a shooting and robbery of a West Valley salon last month.

Derrick Lamone Scott, 26, and Christyn Allisyon Grant, 19, were each charged in Utah's 3rd District Court by the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office with aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies. Scott received additional charges of discharging a firearm causing serious injury, a first-degree felony; possession of a weapon by a restricted person and child abuse, both second-degree felonies.

Prosecutors say Scott, Grant and a third woman yet to be identified have been "traveling the country committing many other robberies and violent offenses in Georgia, Missouri and Illinois," according to charging documents, and are also wanted for "questioning for a murder incident in another state."

On Nov. 26, a 40-year-old woman who is the owner of African Braiding Salon and Hair Supply, 3580 S. Redwood Road, was shot after a man and two women entered her store, according to police. The woman was shot in the chin and "the bullet traveled down through her throat, through her voice box and lodged on the left side of her carotid Artery. Doctors were unable to remove the bullet," charging documents state. The mother has since been released from a local hospital but will need further long-term treatment for her injures, according to West Valley police.

Scott had entered the store and pointed a gun at the woman's 13-year-old daughter who was working at the cash register, the charges state.

"Scott walked up to (the girl), pointed a gun at her head and stated, 'Give me some money or else I'm going to shoot you,'" according to the charges.

Scott then threw the teen girl toward the two women he was with and one of whom then took zip ties out of her pocket and tried to put them on the girl, the charges state. The girl, however, resisted and tried to take Scott's gun away, the charges state.

The girl was thrown to the ground and had her head struck repeatedly by Scott with the gun, according to the charges. She was able to break free and run to a back room where her mother was at.

Shortly after, Scott attempted to shoot the mother but the gun did not go off, according to the charges.

"Scott continued to try to shoot (the mother) and the gun finally went off," the charges state.

Scott then made statements to the girl such as, "Oh, you thought it was a fake gun didn't you?" before again demanding money from the register, according to the charges.

The girl opened the register and gave all the cash to Scott and the two other women as he continued to point a gun at her, the charges state.

"Both females step over (the mother) who was bleeding on the floor, they walk to the back of the store, take items from the shelves and flee the store," police observed in store surveillance video, the charges state.

Using surveillance video from nearby businesses, police were able to identify the getaway car as being stolen out of Georgia, the charges state. The suspect in that car theft is Scott, according to prosecutors. West Valley detectives compared notes with detectives in Georgia who positively identified Scott. Police then learned Scott is also a suspect in an aggravated robbery in Illinois, the charges state.

Investigators later recovered the cash drawer, a purse and the mother's driver's license in a dumpster at a gas station in Delle, Tooele County.

Scott is currently on parole for an aggravated robbery conviction out of Texas, the charges state.
