PROVO — Utah Transit Authority officials are advising FrontRunner riders in Utah County to expect 20- to 30-minute travel delays in Utah County beginning Saturday and continuing for the next week as crews work on the track near its newest station.
Beginning Saturday and continuing through Nov. 27, the commuter train will not run past American Fork Station, as crews work on a new rail switch and pour concrete to build the upcoming Vineyard Station.
During the work period, a bus will connect riders traveling south to the Orem and Provo stations. There will also be two bus routes for riders traveling north. One bus will be at Provo Station that goes directly to American Fork, the other connects Orem and American Fork stations.
"FrontRunner trains will continue operating north of the American Fork Station on regular schedules with minimal delays," the agency wrote in a statement.
The train does not run on Sundays and also will not run on Thanksgiving Day. The regular FrontRunner schedule will return on Nov. 29.
Crews broke ground on the new Vineyard Station back in May. The $5.6 million project was originally scheduled to be completed by the end of the year but its opening has been delayed, much as UTA's new TRAX station at the Salt Lake City International Airport was. The new station is now expected to open in spring 2022.
The station aims to help residents and businesses within Utah's fastest-growing community over the past decade, in terms of percentage increase. Vineyard's population rose from 139 to 12,543 residents between census counts, an 8,924% increase.
