ROY, Weber County — A woman was shot and a man is in custody Thursday evening in Roy, according to police.

The shooting took place about 5:30 p.m. Thursday near 5100 S. 1900 West, according to Roy police spokesman Stuart Hackworth.

Police arrived at the scene and found a woman who had been shot in her side, Hackworth said. She was conscious and breathing when officers arrived, he said.

The woman provided some information to officers, and investigators were able to locate a man who was taken into custody in connection with the shooting, Hackworth added. He had run away from the scene of the shooting but was later located by police, Hackworth said.

The woman and man are known to each other, but their relationship isn't clear, Hackworth said. They have not been identified.

Further details about the shooting weren't immediately available Thursday. The incident is still under investigation.
