KAYSVILLE — A Kaysville home sustained significant damage to its basement after a fire that sent a firefighter to the hospital for treatment and killed a dog Sunday, officials said.

The fire was reported at 12:12 p.m. near 400 West and Burton Lane, Kaysville Fire Department said in a Facebook post. The fire was controlled at 12:56 p.m.

"Upon their arrival crews found a well-involved basement fire, with flames venting out of windows at the front of the home," the department said on Facebook.

When firefighters entered the home, they found a dog dead inside.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with "heat-related illness" and has since been discharged.

Kaysville, Layton, Farmington and North Davis fire departments responded to the fire.
