HITE, San Juan County — Receding waters at Lake Powell led to the discovery of a vehicle and deceased victim believed to have died in a crash last year, officials said.

Garfield County Sheriff Danny Perkins said deputies and park rangers worked to extricate the driver's body from the vehicle on Monday.

Officials believe the car went off a 600-foot ledge last September. It was only recently discovered near the Hite Marina in San Juan County, Perkins said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Perkins said officials believe they have identified the victim. Next of kin has been notified, but the name of the person has not yet been released.
