SPANISH FORK — Two people are dead and two injured after a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon on Saturday night, police said.

About 9:39 p.m. a Mazda was eastbound on U.S. Highway 6 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed into the westbound lane. The Mazda struck a westbound Audi five-passenger car head-on, killing both the driver and passenger of the Mazda.

The driver and passenger of the Audi were transported by air ambulance with serious injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, Utah Highway Patrol trooper Colton Freckleton said.

All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The two people who died were identified as Diana C. Hoyos Avellaneda, 28, of Ephraim, and Laura C. Regueros Balles, 27, from an unknown area.
