HUNTSVILLE — The body of a 16-year-old who didn't make it back to the shore Sunday at Pineview Reservoir has been recovered, Weber County Seach and Rescue Commander Lt. Mark Horton said.
The 16-year-old was attempting to swim shore to shore with three friends near Middle Inlet Beach, where the water is about 10 feet deep. When they realized they wouldn't make it all the way, they decided to turn back; however, the teenager didn't return, officials said. Initial reports indicate the teens were not wearing life jackets.
Search and rescue officials received the call around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday and kept looking until about 1 a.m. that day. The teams resumed the search at about 8 a.m. using boats, divers, sonar and cadaver dogs throughout the search. The body of the 16-year-old was recovered about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, according to Weber County Lt. Cortney Ryan.
The identity of the teenager was not released.
