Sugar House office building blaze injures firefighter, displaces 6

SALT LAKE CITY — Six people were displaced and one firefighter was injured during an overnight fire at an office building in Sugar House.

Salt Lake firefighters responded to the three-alarm fire at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday morning and discovered a fully involved fire at an office building at 1110 E Ashton Ave.

Salt Lake Fire Battalion Chief Dan Walker said a nearby home and apartment building were threatened and evacuated. Due to heat damage and windows shattering in some of the apartments, six people have been displaced.

One of the firefighters on scene suffered smoke inhalation and was sent to a nearby hospital, Walker said. Approximately 60 firefighters were at the scene of the flame, and crews will remain well into the day on Sunday, Walker said.

The office building is believed to have been empty at the time, Walked added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
