NIBLEY, Cache County — A man with a history of violence who had absconded from parole has been arrested and accused of stabbing a woman in the eye.
Armando Vincent Erives, 29, was booked into the Cache County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, theft, obstructing justice and tampering with a witness.
Police say about 1:20 a.m. Monday, a woman drove to a stranger's house seeking help after allegedly being stabbed in the eye and escaping from Erives.
"She was transported to the hospital with a serious laceration to her eye. It was later discovered that her nose was fractured and lacerated as well," according to a police affidavit. The woman told officers that Erives "had attacked her and stabbed her in the eye with a small edged object."
Erives then took the woman's cellphone so she couldn't call for help, which "resulted in her frantically driving to a stranger's house covered in blood," to get help, the affidavit states.
Investigators with the Cache County Sheriff's Office said they learned that Erives "had absconded from his parole officer by refusing to charge his ankle monitor" and continued to evade law enforcement. He was located in Hyrum on Tuesday and arrested.
When looking through his phone, detectives learned that Erives had messaged at least two people telling them to contact the victim and tell her to retract or change her statement, according to the affidavit.
Police have requested Erives be held in jail without bail, noting in the report that he was a parole fugitive at the time of his arrest.
"Armando is known to flee police and has been charged for assaulting a police officer. Every attempt to take Armando into custody places law enforcement officers and the public at risk. Armando is known to be armed and had made statements that he would not be going back to prison," the affidavit says.
