PROVO — Allegiant Air announced Tuesday that it's adding two new destinations out of Provo Municipal Airport this fall, including a new option for fliers looking to travel out to the East Coast.
Airline officials announced that flights to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport in Florida and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will begin on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, respectively. Both flight routes will be operated biweekly once service begins in the fall.
One-way fares will start at $38 for the flight to Arizona and $99 to Clearwater, Florida for a short time, the airline announced. Those prices will be available for fliers who purchase tickets by Wednesday and the trip must be completed by Jan. 3, 2022.
Drew Wells, senior vice president of revenue and planning for Allegiant Air, said in a statement Tuesday that the airline is excited to add two new flight options out of the Utah County airport.
"We know that Provo residents will love having convenient access to the desert adventures and culture of beautiful Phoenix, and the relaxing beaches and attractions of St. Pete — without the hassle of connections and layovers," his statement continued.
The flights announced Tuesday add to a slowly growing list of flight options out of Provo, which up until October remain geared toward regional travel. The airline also has routes to Denver; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Santa Ana, California and Tucson, Arizona.
It also comes as work continues to expand Provo Municipal Airport. Just last week, Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi and city officials celebrating a topping out ceremony for the airport's new terminal, which is expected to open in June 2022.
Kaufusi said after the ceremony that the airport expansion has piqued different airlines' interests and the number of flights in and out of the city is expected to expand in the near future. She views the airport expansion as "an economic driver" as Utah County's population continues to rapidly grow.
The city's goal is to have about 22 daily flights at the airport once the new terminal is open.
