WEST JORDAN — An ongoing feud between two documented gang members resulted in one being shot to death while driving on Redwood Road, West Jordan police said Monday.
Caesar Manenche, 19, was shot about 10 p.m. Sunday near 7800 S. Redwood and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. By Monday afternoon, police announced that they had arrested a 16-year-old boy for investigation of murder in connection with the crime. The boy's role in the killing was not specified Monday. West Jordan Police Lt. Richard Bell said the search continued Monday for several other additional suspects.
Bell said the teen who was arrested and Manenche had been making ongoing threats against each other. On Sunday, occupants of a Chrysler 300 with the boy and several other people spotted Manenche who was in a Chevy Malibu. Starting near 9000 S. Redwood, the two vehicles began chasing or racing each other.
Near 7800 South, someone in the Chrysler fired multiple rounds at the Chevy, striking Manenche, Bell said. After he was shot, his car continued moving and slammed into the back of a third vehicle waiting to turn left at intersection, and then hit a fourth vehicle. The occupants of the vehicles not involved in the shooting were not seriously injured.
Just after 2 p.m., police announced that the 16-year-old — a documented gang member with a violent criminal history — had been arrested. Police are calling the fatal shooting a "targeted act."
Additional information is expected to be released as more arrests are made.
