SALT LAKE CITY — Police on Sunday identified a man who they said was taken into custody after leaving the scene of a car crash on I-80 Saturday morning where a woman was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound.

South Salt Lake police spokeswoman Danielle Croyle said shots were fired during an altercation in South Salt Lake about 3 a.m. on Saturday and a woman was injured.

Sometime after that on Saturday, a single-car crash was reported on I-80 near State Street. Utah Highway Patrol responded and found 32-year-old Shandon Nicole Scott, of Salt Lake City, dead, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, officials said.

Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler said Sunday that Terence Trent Vos, 31, was the suspect who officials said was in the car at the time of the accident but had left the scene. Police located Vos later and took him into custody on a parole violation. He has not been charged in connection with Saturday's incidents.

All westbound lanes of traffic were closed between 700 East and State Street, including the State Street exit, for a time on Saturday.
