SALT LAKE CITY — Winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings will go into effect from 6 p.m. Saturday through 11 a.m. Sunday throughout the Salt Lake Valley and northern Wasatch front, according to the National Weather Service.

Advisories and warnings also go into effect at 5 p.m. for portions of Millard, Beaver, Iron and Washington counties, including Cedar City, the weather service said. Winter driving conditions are possible along I-15.

The advisories and warnings affect many of the higher terrain locations in Utah and southwest Wyoming, weather service officials warned. The northern weather advisory was listed mainly for Salt Lake and Tooele bench locations near canyons, which may experience between 3 inches and 5 inches of snow. Gusty winds may produce localized blowing and drifting snow.

Excluding lower portions of Washington County, all locations under warnings and advisories ought to expect snow by sunset on Saturday, which should diminish by Sunday morning. Mountain snow showers are expected to linger — especially in the northern parts of the state — the weather service says.

Mountain routes are expected to be impacted and degrade overnight. Ice is possible on wet roads, especially if left untreated.
