SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Ben McAdams said this week that President Donald Trump has signed into law his measure that will support solar energy research and development, including here in Utah.
In a tweet McAdams, D-Utah, said the law will "support Utah's clean energy economy and jobs while building a healthier environment."
The solar energy measure was originally found in the Solar Energy Research and Development Act, a McAdams-sponsored bill introduced in 2019. According to a September news release, that bill was eventually rolled into the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act, which passed the House that month. It was later made part of the $1.4 trillion omnibus spending package passed by Congress and signed by Trump this weekend.
"A vibrant clean energy economy is good for our health and environment while supporting thousands of Utah jobs," McAdams said in the release. "By tapping into technology and innovation with scientific research, we can improve our air quality, address the threats of climate change, and grow Utah's economy."

McAdams is days away from the end of his first and only term in Congress after he narrowly lost reelection to Republican Burgess Owens in the 4th Congressional District.
McAdams' office did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
