LOGAN — In what can be seen as a ringing endorsement for new Utah State coach Blake Anderson, the team's leading receiver Deven Thompkins has decided to return to Logan.
The dynamic receiver announced Wednesday he has taken his name out of the transfer portal.
"I believe in Coach Blake Anderson's vision for the team and I believe things are going to get back on track," Thompkins said in a message on Twitter.
Thompkins announced his intentions to leave Utah State midway through the 2020 season and missed the team's final two games. Despite that, Thompkins still led the team with 20 receptions for 214 yards in what was a sluggish passing attack.
Thompkins, a 5-foot-7 speedster, had 40 receptions for 536 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore in 2019. He also returned a punt for a touchdown that same season. He has 69 career receptions for 815 yards and five touchdowns.

"There was a lot going on in my life at the time that caused me to become very overwhelmed with life and it knocked me out of focus," Thompkins said. "During this recruitment process I have learned a lot about myself and it has helped me truly understand what it is I want out of life. With that being said I have decided that I will be returning to Utah State for my last 2 years of eligibility."
Thompkins may have a new quarterback getting him the ball this season, too. Former Arkansas State QB Logan Bonner announced Tuesday he was following Anderson to Utah State.

Bonner, a redshirt junior, threw for 3,150 yards, 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions during his time at ASU. He threw for 1,863 yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2020 while sharing quarterback duties.
Bonner started the first four games in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury. In those four starts, he threw for 1,052 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception.
