SALT LAKE CITY — A Draper woman accused of stabbing her former girlfriend and new partner multiple times before attempting to burn their apartment down is facing several felony charges.
Adam "Anna" Jiang Tien, 27, was charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court with two counts of attempted aggravated murder, and aggravated arson, both first-degree felonies.
On Nov. 15, Draper police were called to a home where a woman claimed Tien had stabbed her and was attempting to light the carpet on fire using a blowtorch, according to charging documents.
When officers arrived at the house, Tien met them at the door with her hands up, which officers noted had blood on them, the charges state.
"Large amounts of blood" were seen and a strong odor of smoke filled the house, according to the charges.
Police found the two female victims in a bedroom.
"We were stabbed while we were sleeping," one of the victims said, the charges state.
The women were stabbed multiple times, and officers noted "the floor, walls and bed were also covered in blood," according to the charges.
One woman said it "felt like she was stabbed about 50 times," the charges state.
When interviewed by police, Tien said she had been in a relationship with one of the victims who convinced her to move to Utah and live with the third woman. The day after arriving in Utah, Tien said her girlfriend broke up with her and started a relationship with the woman whose apartment they had just moved into, the charges state.
"Tien felt there was no other way to get revenge and wanted them dead," according to charging documents.
While the other women were sleeping, Tien went into their bedroom and began stabbing them, the charges state. She then got a blowtorch and tried to set the bedroom on fire because she wanted to kill the women, the charges state.
Both victims were treated for numerous defensive wounds on their hands and bodies, according to the affidavit. Tien was also treated for cuts on her hands before being booked into jail.
The two victims told police that after being attacked, they locked themselves in a bedroom when "the smoke alarm was going off and they believed Adam was trying to set the house on fire with a blowtorch," according to a police affidavit.
Detectives serving a search warrant on the home found a blow torch and "portions of the home which were black from being burned."
