SALT LAKE CITY — Have you spent the coronavirus pandemic carefully crafting original Christmas tunes and can't wait to share them with the world? If you answered yes to that very specific and highly unlikely hypothetical question, you are in luck — and Temple Square Performances wants to hear from you.

On Thursday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the annual Christmas concerts at Temple Square will look a little different this year.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the hundreds of concerts held on Temple Square every December will be replaced by video submissions of music performances that will be edited together into full Christmas shows and then broadcast on The performances will even be used in the annual Light the World Christmas initiative.

But before you grab your phone and start belting "Joy to the World," here are some things to know.

Who can submit videos?

The church has invited everyone to submit Christmas video performances.

What types of songs should be used?

Performances can be of Christmas classics, fun and lighthearted holiday songs and, of course, inspiring, worshipful ones. Songs from all cultures are welcome (though since they will be replacing an English speaking event, the church has asked the performances to be in English).

Oh, and original songs are encouraged. So if you feel you have the next "Silent Night" or "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" in your back pocket, it's time to share it with the world.

What should the musical group look like?

Any size group — from full choirs to instrumental groups to small ensembles — are welcome to submit videos (though the church does remind the participants to observe local social distancing requirements). Solo performances will also be accepted, but priority will be given to groups.

Can you submit multiple videos?

If your performance is worthy of an encore — congrats, you can have one. Each group can submit up to two videos.

When is the deadline to submit?

Video submissions should be emailed to by Nov. 15.

What should the video look like?

Videos should be shot horizontally in high resolution and be creatively edited. Groups do not have to speak or introduce their performance and there is no need to fade into or out of the video.

More specific information can be found on the church's website.

Now, get filming.
