SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say terrorized people trying to recreate on the 4th of July by firing numerous rounds now faces 28 charges, including 23 felonies.
Omar Johnson Levi, 40, of Fillmore, was charged Monday in Millard County’s 4th District Court with illegally carrying a concealed firearm, a second-degree felony; witness tampering, 11 counts of aggravated assault, six counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, and three counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, all third-degree felonies; threatening to use a weapon in a fight, and two counts of evidence tampering, both class A misdemeanors; making a threat of violence, a class B misdemeanor; intoxication, a class C misdemeanor; and and not having a valid license, an infraction.
According to a police affidavit, just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, Millard County sheriff’s deputies were called to Fillmore Canyon “on the report of a man with a gun pointing it at people and firing it.
“While speaking with 11 separate victims, it was identified that Omar had threatened five individuals including one juvenile by pulling a gun out of his waistband and pointing it at them, making statement about them having Trump flags on their four-wheeler and threatening the juvenile that he was going to come break into his house and kill his family,” the affidavit states.
As police were arriving, Levi drove off to find his wife, who had already fled from the area “due to him pointing the gun at her head threatening to kill her and firing it, with five more victims. While confronting them, Omar pointed the gun at all of them, and began firing it out the window of his vehicle getting closer and closer to the victims before ceasing fire, getting out and pulling out what was described as an AR-type rifle and pointing it at them, before fleeing down the mountain,” police wrote in their affidavit.
Deputies believe Levi threw the weapons out of his vehicle as he was driving out of the canyon back to his house, the affidavit states.
When his name was checked by public safety dispatchers, Omar came back not having a driver’s license.
After he was arrested and transported to the Millard County Jail, deputies had Levi do a blood-alcohol test which registered at 0.144.
