SARATOGA SPRINGS — Crews on Saturday battled wildfires throughout the state.

The dry weather and high winds have created ideal fire conditions in Utah. Follow along here for the latest:

Lucin Fire in west Utah 780 acres, 80% contained

A wildfire that started Friday night in Utah has reached 780 acres but is 80% contained, fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info. Fire crews prioritized saving a small trestle along the historic Transcontinental Railroad Grade.

10 fires started in Utah on Saturday

Small fire pops up near Eagle Mountain

A small fire has sparked near Eagle Mountain Saturday night. The brush fire, estimated at 1 acre, is in a open space next to Silver Lake, Eagle Mountain officials posted on Twitter. The fire is slow moving and officials will update if there is new information. —Tracie Snowder, KSL.com

Fire crews working on Cooper Knoll Fire near Panguitch Lake

A new fire near Panguitch Lake started Saturday evening, according to officials from Dixie National Forest. The Cooper Knoll Fire, which was reported around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, is between 20 and 30 acres and is at 0% containment. Officials do not anticipate a control problem since "the fire is moving towards an area previously treated with prescribed fire," according to a press statement. They believed the fire to have been human-caused. There are no road closures or restrictions in place for the fire at this time. —Tracie Snowder, KSL.com

Stillwater Fire 70% contained

The Stillwater Fire is 70% contained and is 40 acres, fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info. Fire crews have halted growth on the fire. Utah Fire Info is not giving any more updates on this fire for the evening. —Tracie Snowder, KSL.com

Human-caused Bates Canyon fire at 17 acres

The Bates Canyon fire in Erda reached a size of 17 acres, Tooele Fire Warden Dan Walton said in a tweet. High winds pushed it near some homes but did not cause any infrastructure damage. The fire was caused by someone cutting and grinding metal in an area of dry vegetation, Walton reported. —Tracie Snowder, KSL.com

Stillwater Fire fully contained; witnesses report hearing exploding targets before fire started

As of 3 p.m., officials reported the Stillwater Fire was fully contained. The exact cause of the Stillwater Fire is still being investigated, but Saratoga Springs Fire Department Chief Jess Campbell said the fire may have been started by target shooters. Witnesses told investigators they heard exploding targets just before they saw the side of a mountains start to burn, Campbell said. Firefighters were quick to get control of the fire thanks to ground crews, helicopter water drops and airplanes creating a perimeter with red fire retardant, he said. But their efforts to put out the fire are still expensive, and Campbell estimated the cost to be near $100,000. No arrests have been made but investigators are looking to talk with people seen near the area around the time the fire started in an orange pickup truck. —Alex Cabrero, KSL TV and Tracie Snowder, KSL.com

Bates Canyon fire contained in Erda

A fire in Erda was contained Saturday afternoon after beginning near Bates Canyon Road and state Route 36 about 11:45 a.m. Jon Smith, spokesman for the North Tooele Fire District, said the fire spread rapidly in waist-high grass because of high winds. Smith said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The firefighters received additional ground and air support from Granstville Fire Department and the Utah Division of Forestry. A single-engine air tanker did two drops to assist, Smith said. Crews are still estimating the final size of the fire. — Graham Dudley, KSL.com

Fire west of Utah Lake now 50% contained

A new wildfire started west of Utah Lake and grew rapidly, fire officials said Saturday. The Stillwater Fire had reached about 30 acres just before 11:30 a.m., state and federal fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info. An hour later, Saratoga Springs Fire Chief Jess Campbell estimated the fire at 180 acres. Just after 12:50 p.m., Saratoga Springs Fire & Rescue estimated the fire at 150 acres and said it was 50% contained. It is west of the Fox Hollow neighborhood, the department said on Facebook, and is not threatening homes or structures. Campbell said the fire is roughly three-quarters of a mile away from homes and is moving up the mountain away from them, Campbell said. From the ground, planes and helicopters could be seen pouring water and retardant on the blaze. Campbell said air and ground resources from the Bureau of Land Management, Utah County Fire, Lehi and Eagle Mountain are being used. "Numerous resources" are responding to the fire including aircraft and several engines. Fire officials said the wind is driving the fire's behavior. The fire is under investigation, officials said. Campbell said the fire may have been started by target shooters in the area; officials are looking for a vehicle of interest.
