DETROIT LAKE, Ore. — A 13-year-old girl from Utah died after a Sunday afternoon boating accident in Oregon.
Shorty after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Marine Patrol deputies from the Marion County (Oregon) Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Box Canyon area of Detroit Lake, according to a sheriff's office news release. A caller told officials that two pontoon-style boats were tethered together near the shoreline when the top of a large tree fell on top of both of the boats. The caller also said that at least one person was severely injured and taken to Mongold State Park for help via boat.
When deputies arrived at the Mongold boat ramp, they discovered the victim was being given CPR, the press release states. A medical helicopter was called to transport the girl; however, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The girl was a 13-year-old from Utah who was at the lake with her family, officials said. Additional information about the victim will not be released at this time, the press release states.
