SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health released its daily coronavirus numbers update Saturday afternoon, revealing an additional 155 cases of COVID-19 and one new death from the disease reported overnight.
That's up from 6,913 cases the day before, a 2.2% increase, and brings Utah to a total of 78 coronavirus-related deaths.
Health department spokesman Tom Hudachko said the person who died was a Salt Lake County woman who was living in a long-term care facility.
Of the 166,774 tests conducted in Utah so far, 4.2% have come back positive. Utah reported an additional 3,556 tests conducted over Friday.
The health department considers 3,896 of total Utah coronavirus cases to have recovered from the virus so far.
The total number of cases reported by the health department includes all cases of COVID-19 since Utah’s outbreak began, including those who are infected now, those who have recovered from the disease, and those who have died.
Of the 155 new coronavirus cases reported Saturday, 76 are from Salt Lake County.
Most of Utah moved from "moderate risk" to "low risk" on Saturday, based on guidelines developed by state leaders as they seek to restart economic activity amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grand, Summit and Wasatch counties, as well as Salt Lake City, West Valley City and Magna, are still officially at the "moderate risk" phase.
Under "low risk" guidelines, social gatherings of up to 50 people are permitted. While maintaining social distancing, pools, businesses, houses of worship and entertainment venues can operate.
The state encourages the use of face coverings in public settings when social distancing is difficult to maintain.
