SALT LAKE CITY — Six more COVID-19 deaths were reported Tuesday in Utah, the state's highest single-day death toll since the pandemic began.
The total number of Utah COVID-19 cases increased by 132 from Monday, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Tuesday's totals give Utah 5,449 confirmed cases, with 456 total hospitalizations and 56 total deaths from the disease. Previously, there were 5,317 cases in the state.
Three men and three women accounted for the six deaths reported on Tuesday, according to a health department news release. Four of the six were from Salt Lake County, one from Utah County, and one from Washington County.
All six people had underlying medical conditions, and two were residents of long-term care facilities, the health department said. All were hospitalized at the time of their deaths. Four were between the ages of 61 and 85, one was between the ages of 45 and 60, and one was older than 85.
The total number of cases reported by the health department includes all cases of COVID-19 since Utah’s outbreak began, including those who are infected now, those who have recovered from the disease, and those who have died.
The new numbers indicate a 2.5% increase in positive cases since Monday. A total of 126,715 people have been tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, up 2,054 from Monday. About 4.3% have tested positive for COVID-19.
There were 15 more hospitalizations between Monday and Tuesday, according to the health department.
As of Monday, 2,387 people were estimated to have recovered from COVID-19 in Utah, according to the health department. The agency considers anyone who was diagnosed with the disease three or more weeks ago and has not died to be recovered.
Utah health officials are not expected to hold a press conference on the current coronavirus situation on Tuesday afternoon. Since Utah has transitioned to the "moderate risk" COVID-19 zone, officials are planning to hold press conferences on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only.
