SALT LAKE CITY — Criminal charges have been filed against a Salt Lake man accused of brutally beating another man to death in his apartment.

William Dennis Bradley, 54, is charged in 3rd District Court with murder, a first-degree felony, and four counts of assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony.

On April 10, Salt Lake police responded to the Jefferson School Apartments, 1099 S. West Temple, on a report that a golf cart belonging to a maintenance crew was stolen.

Police found Bradley driving the cart near 1300 S. Main. He was “covered in blood” and “stated he had been in a fight with the Terminator and had to cut his head off,” according to charging documents. “Bradley told officers that they would find the body of the Terminator in his apartment.”

Officers who checked Bradley’s apartment found the body of Robert Carter, 58, who was believed to be homeless, in a bedroom.

“The male was covered in broken pieces of furniture and covered in blood. His face and head were covered in lacerations and bruises,” the charges state.

An autopsy determined Carter’s cause of death to be “blunt and sharp force trauma.”

Bradley was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries. While there, police say he became very agitated and kicked a doctor, police officer and two hospital security members.

An emergency room doctor stated that Bradley was under the influence of methamphetamine and “has probably been up for days,” according to a police affidavit.

When he was cleared by medical staff, Bradley was taken to the Salt Lake City Police Department for questioning. But “he refused to stay awake and answer any questions and stated only that he wanted to go to sleep,” the affidavit says.

Prosecutors have requested Bradley be held on $1 million bail.
