SALT LAKE CITY — Colin Haynie, the husband and father to a woman and three children who were killed in Grantsville last week, spoke for the first time about the loss of his family members on Thursday.
Colin Haynie told reporters "the outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming.”
His wife Consuelo Alejandra Haynie, 52; daughters Alexis, 15, and Milan, 12; and son Matthew, 14, were killed Friday in a shooting.
Colin and Consuelo Haynie’s son Colin Jeffery “CJ” Haynie, 16, has been charged in 3rd District Court in Tooele County with four counts of aggravated murder, one count of attempted aggravated murder, and five counts of discharge of a firearm, all first-degree felonies.
“At first this seemed to be a family tragedy, but as time has gone on it's become very clear that it's affected far more than my family or even the local community," Colin Haynie told reporters on Thursday. "We appreciate all who have been so generous in giving time and help and resources and making this difficult time less difficult for us.”
The outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming.

Colin Haynie was wounded in the shooting but is expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement released through his Sandy-based attorney David K. Isom. The family’s college-age son was away from the home at the time of the shooting.
“As you can imagine, this loss is almost unbearable,” Isom said in a statement on behalf of Colin Haynie earlier in the day. “Colin has asked me to express his and the family’s profound appreciation for the support given by friends, extended community, law enforcement and health care providers.”
Isom added that Colin Haynie “can hardly comprehend what has happened.” He said the father is asking for time and privacy as he grieves and heals.
According to Isom, the family does not anticipate releasing any further information until after CJ Haynie’s initial court appearance, scheduled for Jan. 27 in Tooele County.
