ARCHES NATIONAL PARK — Officials on Monday released the names of two people who died after falling from the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park on Friday.

Chief Ranger Scott Brown stated that troopers received a report at 7:30 a.m. Friday that three people had fallen into the bowl area beneath Delicate Arch. Crews arrived on scene to find a 65-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, both deceased. A 30-year-old man was also found with serious injuries and was flown to Moab Regional Hospital.

Officials on Monday identified the deceased as Toshiaki Amimoto, 65, and Etoko Amimoto, 60, according to a news release from the Grand County Sheriff's Office. Both were residents of Torrance, California, according to the news release.

Brown confirmed that what caused the fall is currently unknown, though the trail was wet and slick at the time of the incident. The weather was rainy and snowy with temperatures in the low 30s, the sheriff's office said.

The accident caused a temporary closure of the Delicate Arch trail, but it has since been reopened.

The National Park Service and Grand County Sheriff's Office are investigating the accident, the sheriff's office said.
