WEST VALLEY CITY — One man is dead after a stabbing at an apartment complex in West Valley City, police said Thursday night.

Police received reports of a stabbing about 8:15 p.m., according to Lt. Steve Burke of West Valley City police. They discovered a man suffering from stab wounds and rendered aid, but the man ultimately died of his injuries, Burke said.

The man was identified Friday as Treyvon Stephens, 19, according to a tweet from West Valley City police.

Police say Stephens was stabbed in the parking lot of the apartment complex at 4000 S. Redwood Road and then ran into a friend's apartment. Two men, who were not identified, fled the scene and are believed to be known to Stephens, police said in a tweet Friday.

Investigators believe Stephens had been spending time with the two men earlier Thursday, but no motive has been identified as of Friday morning, police said.

Burke said police are investigating two different locations related to the attack.

The attacker or attackers are at large and police have begun a search and investigation, the department announced on Twitter.

As of Friday morning, police said they still had "very limited information," and no arrests have been made. Investigators are searching for a white passenger car in connection with the stabbing, which is possibly a newer model Toyota Camry, police said on Twitter.

Anyone with information about Stephens is asked to call West Valley City Police at 801-840-4000.
